ALICE “FAYE” EVANS-WALKER
Alice Faye Evans -Walker
Alice Faye Evans- Walker born in Delhi, Louisiana, February 4, 1951. She was called to her Heavenly Home April 18, 2022, in Knoxville, Tennessee, after a lingering illness.
Commonly known as Faye, she graduated from Waverly High School in Delhi, Louisiana, in 1969. She also attended classes at University of Tennessee. She professed a faith and hope in Jesus Christ as a young woman. She moved to Knoxville in 1972, and she eventually began serving as a faithful member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in the church’s choir and was a member of the Guiding Light Circle until her health prevented her from actively participating. She worked previously at Miller’s Department Store for several years before she began the career that she loved with the University of Tennessee Parking Department. After she retired from UT in 1989, she focused on her family life, and was overjoyed at the birth of her grandson. Faye loved singing, telling stories, cooking, and spending time with her family, and most especially doting on her grandson.
Faye was a warm and loving woman of God who never met a stranger. Faye always shared her gift of love with everyone she knew.
Faye was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Alfred N. Walker; mother, Mary Lou Green; father, Ike Burgess, and stepmother, Magnolia Burgess. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Hazel Jones and Mary Ann Nimmer; sister-in-law and best friend, Rose Mitchell, and brothers, Gus Martin and S.L. Martin; preceded in death by cherished and beloved mother-in-law, Johnnie Mae Hardin.
Those who will cherish her memory include her loving and devoted daughter, Tasha Walker Fernandez; beloved grandson, Josiah Fernandez of Knoxville; godson, Christopher Williams of Chicago, Illinois; adopted son, Chad McLin, of Knoxville; brothers, Azell Cornist, Curtis Harris, James Green, Clarence “Preacher” Vaughn; sisters, Bernice Wright, Catherine Green, and Erma Gray all originally of Delhi, Louisiana, and her caring and devoted sister-in-law, Hattie Carson of Cleveland, Ohio. She was blessed with a special niece that was more like a sister, Linda Jones of Delhi, Louisiana, and cousin, Rita “Teenie” Walker. She enjoyed relationships with numerous caring friends that will cherish her memory: her best friends Sue and Mary Lou Pipes, Mary “Poochie” Jones, Charles and Lucia Fulkerson, DeAngela Black, Rudolph “Butch” Long, Ernest Long, Jimmy Chandler and Fredericka Kindred. She has a host of beloved stepchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends, Debbie (Gary) Scruggs, Alfred Jones, Gail Chesney, David Chesney, Brian Green, Camisa Walker, Andrea Harmon, Adreanne(James) Curry, who loved her dearly and will forever remember and love her.
