Emmitt L Mason
Emmitt Louis Mason, age 79, of Knoxville passed away in the late afternoon, February 5, 2023, at Fort Sanders Medical Center. Emmitt was born October 5, 1943 in the Lonsdale Community to Reverend William L. Mason Sr. and Eula B. Streeter Mason. Emmitt had spent the majority of his life serving the communities that had given him so much. Alumnus of “Old” Austin High School- Class of 1961. Graduate of Knoxville College- Class of 1966. Member Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Disable veteran of the Vietnam War. Retired civil servant for the Veterans Un-Employment Office. Devoted member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and the Deacon Board until being called to Ministry, obtained a Theology Degree and performed his trial sermon under the mentorship of the late Rev. Caldwell. Emmitt was for many years a lighthouse on the sea, he will be missed by everyone that knew him. Emmitt was a loving son, brother, uncle, and great uncle.
Preceded in death by father, Rev. William Sr, mother: Eula B, sister: Rosa (Rose), and sister-in-law, Dorothy Mason.
Emmitt is survived by brothers, William Jr, Dan (Gaynell); nieces: Sharon (Dwight), Denise, Melissa (Terry), Dana (Robert); nephews, Jeryl (Jeveece), Jerome, Jared (Florence). and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews.
Thank you to Angie Cowherd and the staff at Atria Weston Assisted living Home, Tanya and the staff at Heritage Assisted Living Home, Dr. Brunson and Dr. McCord.
Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home, 12:15 p.m. Sunday for the funeral service at the church and 1:15 p.m. Monday for burial.
Family will receive friends,1:00-2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2023 at First Calvary Baptist Church; funeral service, 2:00 p.m. Rev. Kelvin White, Officiating.
Interment, Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier with full Military Honors.

Austin High school class of 1961.
Our family have most definitely lost a jewel. He set an example of the heart of God for all to follow. He was so loving, kind and soft spoken. We shared treasured moments of laughter even in his later days. Gone, but will never be forgotten 💔 Dan & William, God will be the healer of your hearts and the lifter of your heads. Mr. Mason will be missed. He did a lot for everyone all over Knoxville. He had a heart for the people whether at work, in his community, or working in the church.
Thoughtful, kind, thinking of others often before himself. So this day we think of you, to say thank you, thank you, for who you were for all the people.
