Hazel Marie Griffin

Hazel Marie Griffin – transitioned to her heavenly home on May 10, 2021 at West Hills Health & Rehab Center. She was born September 8, 1944 in Knoxville, TN, where she became a lifelong resident.

During her youth, Hazel felt at home attending First AME Zion Church and confessed hope in Christ at an early age. She graduated from Austin High School in Knoxville, Class of 1962.

As a young woman, Hazel enrolled in the LPN Program locally and grew to be a giving, cordial, reserved, patient and mild-mannered person. She found pleasure and developed interests in sewing and helping others in need. Hazel also had a passion for enjoying the smooth sounds of Motown and especially the late Marvin Gaye.

She is preceded in death by sisters, Mary Wade Sledge and Cora Wade Todd.

She is survived by her mother, Grace, siblings, her own children: Grace Houston, Eugenia (Randall) Taylor, George Griffin, Jerome (Jada) Griffin of Charlotte, NC, and James (Emily) Long of Clinton, TN, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Also left to cherish her memories are devoted friend, Maxine Love, the Meredith family of Tuscumbia, AL, and others who were also involved.
