James “Toby” Henry departed this life on July 4, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones at home. He was a member of Robinson Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to whoever that was blessed to be around him. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, ears that truly listened, arms that always held, love that’s never ending, and a heart that was made of gold, and keeping Bell Street clean. He was a faithful and dedicated employee at Charles West Chevrolet. It was stated by Charles West himself “out of 50 years he never missed a day of work.” Its hard to put into words the love, loyalty, and dedication that he always gave to his family.

He is preceded in death by parents, James Henry Sr. and Lila Henry, loving wife of 69 years, Shirley Tate Henry, daughter, Donna Evans, granddaughter, Donita Simmons, grandson, Chance Knighton, great grandson, Derek Evans, sisters, Sarah Wilson and Shirley Barton, brothers, Joseph “JC”, Willie “Bulldog”, and Carl Henry.

He leaves to cherish his memory devoted daughters, Mary Ferguson, Phyllis Hardin, Loyce (David) Mayes, and Judith Knighton, grandchildren, Yolanda (Travis) Woods, devoted granddaughter, Jennifer Henry, Sonya Knox, Eric Peacock, LaRon Ferguson, Ina Mayes, Iven Mayes, Kendra Evans, Joy Hardin, and Dynasty Knighton, 19 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family member to include special friend, Steve West and family, and Danny Whaley. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hospice care group of Blount Memorial Hospital for their love and care.

Family will receive friends Saturday July 8, 2023 from 12 to 1pm at Mt Pleasant AME Zion Church, 3664 Mt Pleasant Church Rd, Rockford, TN 37853. With funeral services to follow. Rev Norman Jeferson officiating. Interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa, TN. Final arrangements by Jarnigan and Son Mortuary.
