Obituary for Mary “Mitzi” Warren Mitchell

Mary “Mitzi” Warren Mitchell, age 72, formerly of Knoxville, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI.
“Mitzi” was born October 31, 1948 to the late Lester and Loraine Warren in Knoxville, Tennessee. She shared her life with four sisters and two brothers.
She joined Tabernacle Baptist Church at an early age and she was active in the Children’s Choir, Youth Choir, Sunday School and the Young Adult Choir. She was also a member of The Staple Community Choir where she was one of the lead vocalists. She loved to sing and would always attend numerous choir rehearsals and participate in musical programs.
“Mitzi” received her education in the Knoxville Public Schools and graduated from Austin High School in 1967. After this time, she met the love of her life, Freddie Mitchell. They married in 1972, moved to Atlanta, GA and shared 35 years of matrimony until his passing in 2007.
During the time she resided in Atlanta, she united with Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. She continued her love for singing by becoming active in their Choir and Praise Team. Entrepreneurship became one of her biggest accomplishments. She was the owner and operator of Mitzi’s Salon in the Buckhead area of Atlanta.
Detroit became her home in 2007 where she remained until her passing. She was loved very much by her family and friends and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Loraine; husband, Freddie Mitchell; sisters, Willie Mae “Pig” Brannon, Brenda Thomas and Christine “Bitty” Judson; brothers, James and Robert “Bobby” Warren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sister Betty Bowen; sisters-in-law Florence Warren, Ann Roe, Connie Holloway and Phyllis Patrick; brothers-in-law Jerome Thomas and Michael Mitchell; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to include the Blair, Black and Mitchell families.
The body may be viewed Thursday, February 11, 2021, 12:00 – 8:00 pm at Jarnigan’s Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday, February 12, 2021, 11:00 – 11:30 am at Jarnigan’s Chapel with funeral service to follow at 11:30 am. Face mask and social distancing is required. Interment 1:00 pm at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike.
