Obituary for Patricia Ann Miles Jones

PATRICIA ANN MILES JONES

Patricia Ann Miles Jones was born in Knoxville, TN, May 31, 1937, to James Miles Sr. and Modeste B. Miles. She passed away peacefully, January 9, 2023, at Beverly Park Place Health Rehabilitation Center.

Pat was educated in the Knoxville public school system and was a graduate of the 1954 class of Austin High School. She continued her education at Swift Memorial Junior College and Tennessee State University, where she graduated with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1959. She completed further study at Hunter College in New York City, and she began her teaching career in the New York public schools, where she taught for eleven years.

Upon returning to Knoxville, Pat taught at Vine Middle school, Austin-East H.S., and Gresham Middle school. After 30 plus years as an educator, Pat retired and became active with Church Women United, and a member of the Friendly Readers Book Club. For many years, Pat was an active and devoted member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the chancel choir, the Adult Sunday School class, and the Presbyterian Women’s organization.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, A. Ross Jones, Sr., parents, James & Modeste Miles, brother, James (Jap) Miles, Jr., Sister-in-Law, Mary F. Miles, and brother-in-Law, Ralph Goss, Jr.
She is survived by sister, Laura M. Goss; nieces, Celeste Brooks, Patricia Miles; Nephews, Ralph Goss, III, Runyaro G. Goss; Cousins, Charles McDuffey, Beverly McDuffey Ward, Earnest McDuffey, Sr., (Katherine), James Hawkins, Hinton Brazelton, Cockeysville, MD, Edna Jean Russell, Eufala, AL, Rev.,Dr. Joel Miles (Rev. Ruby), Chicago, IL; Step Children, Ross Jones, Jr., Rosslyn Jones, Raechell Jones; Step Grandchildren, Jasmine and Alexandra Jones, cousins, great nieces and nephews and special friends; Ralph Moore, Mamie Thompson, Eva Reneau and members of the Friendly Readers Book Club. Special thanks to the staff at Oakwood Senior Living, Beverly Park Place Health & Rehab, and UT Medical Center Hospice Services.

Family will receive friends, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2023 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., 3023 Selma Ave., 37914; funeral service, 11:30 a.m.

Interment, Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In keeping with CDC Covid-19 guidelines, we ask that persons attending the funeral please wear a mask.
