Evelyn Nicholson

Evelyn Ann Nicholson was born on January 24, 1935, in Knoxville, TN to the late Lucious & Inell Thomas.  She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt,and friend who passed away on January 23, 2025 at Ft. Sanders Hospital.

She was a graduate of Austin High School (1953) and Knoxville College (1957).  She married the love of her life, Floyd Nicholson, Jr. (April, 1958).  To this union, 2 daughters: Carmen Nicholson and Karen Nicholson-Cotton were born.  Evelyn retired from TN School for the Deaf after 30 years of service.

Evelyn has been a lifelong member of Bethel A.M.E Church. She sang in the mass choir, served on the usher board, finance committee, kitchen committee, missionary society, steward board, and Sunday school teacher.  Evelyn was also a member of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority. Her leadership and devotion to her faith, family, and community was evident in all she did.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Richie (sister), Carmen Nicholson (daughter) and in-laws: Pansy Crowe, Evelyn Banks, and Wilton Nicholson.

She leaves to cherish her memory, devoted husband, Floyd Nicholson, Jr., daughter, Karen Nicholson-Cotton, brother-in-law, Willie Richie, sisters-in law, Vivian (William) James and Martha Nicholson.  Grandchildren: Nicole Starnes, Ashton (Xavier) Stallings, Amber & James Cotton, and great-grandchildren: Ethan Cotton, Aria Foster and Aubrey Stallings.  A host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who will dearly miss her.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1/29/25, 5-6:00 pm family hour, 6:00 pm Celebration of Life.  Interment Thursday, 1/30 at 8:30AM - East TN State Veterans Cemetery-2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy.  Jarnigan & Son Mortuary is in charge of arrangements
