Gala Jenkins

Friends and Family, we’re writing to inform you of the passing of Gala Rosemond Jenkins, (nee) Droghn of Corryton, Tennessee. Gala was 81 years old and passed away on January 12, 2025.  

Gala was born and raised in Chicago Heights, IL. Where she attended St. Agnes Catholic School and Bloom High School (Class of 1961). Gala received various degrees in Nursing and Chemistry while attending Prairie State College, Governor State University, and the University of Phoenix. Gala was a retired Registered Nurse for the Knox County Health Department; she held the position of Director of Nursing, where she worked tirelessly for many years. Gala participated in numerous professional organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., and the National Council of Negro Women. 

Gala is survived by her six children, L Denise Coleman, Starling T Jenkins, III, Brian H. Jenkins, Kathryn M. Jenkins, David A. Jenkins, and Michael A. Jenkins, one brother, Raymond A. Scheard, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one Goddaughter and a host of relatives and close friends. 

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in her memory on May 3, 2025, in the Knoxville, Tennessee, area. Further information will follow. Memorial donations can be made in Gala’s name to a charity of your choice.
