Lorene Long


Lorene Long, age 79, of Knoxville, TN, was born January 27, 1945 to the late Elmer and Catherine Gallaher Fouse in Oakdale, TN.  She slept away peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN.


She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her church family, loved singing, and truly loved her family and friends. Lorene sung with her family, The Fouse Family Singers, The Inspirational Echoes, The Gospelettes, The Knoxville MLK Celebration Choir, Knoxville Baptist District Choir, and the TBM&E Choir Department where she served as President for several years and served in many other leadership capacities. 


She was a graduate of Campbell High School, Roane County, TN. She also graduated with honors from Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC, where she also participated on the softball team and sang with the Livingstone College Prayer Meeting Choir. Lorene returned to TN and worked as an Equipment Testing and Inspections ET & I with the Department of Energy at the K-25 facility in Oak Ridge, TN, where she retired after many years of service. 


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Billie Jean (Rev. Horace Sr.) Whittaker, Tuskegee, AL; her twin, Elder Irene McCowan, Knoxville, TN; brother, Raymond Fouse, Harriman, TN, and brothers and sisters-in-laws, Leroy (Clara) Fouse, Knoxville, TN; Thomas (Bernetta) Fouse, Rockwood, TN.


Survivors include devoted brother, Jesse (Carmen) Fouse, Oak Ridge, TN; God-daughter, Angela (Gabriel) Dennis, Knoxville, TN; and special nieces, Jamika Ewing, Atlanta, GA, and DeShawna (Carlos) Hendricks, Knoxville, TN. Grandchildren, Madia & Gabriel Dennis, and great-grandson, Zaiden, all of Knoxville, TN. Loving nieces, Patricia Henry, Cleveland, TN, Angela Smith, Rockwood, TN,  Charissa (Bryan) Adams, Harriman, TN, and  Tiffany Toy, Atlanta, GA. Great-nieces, Jalia Hendricks, Sarenity Wright,  Ashley Eskridge, Grace Eskridge, Shantel Smith, Kyer’ah Howard, Saxon Eskridge, Saniyah Jones,  Amiyah Jones, Ava Chaput , Navetta Heard, JaLeah Heard, and Jocelyn Moore. Loving nephews,  Horace Whittaker Jr., Montgomery, AL, Cedric Whittaker, Tuskegee , AL, Celvin Fouse, Knoxville, TN,  and Darryl Moore, Atlanta, GA. Great-nephews, Jorai McGee, X’Zyion Henry, Lailonnii Jones, and Laishonnii Wright. Special god-son, Jackie Moore, Oak Ridge, TN, and adopted grandson, Dane Johnson, Indianapolis, IN,  special god-brother Beal (Peggy) Bourne, Knoxville, TN; special friend/caretaker, Alma Williams, Knoxville,TN,  and a host of loving relatives, special friends, and church family.


Family will receive friends, 11a.m.-12p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church; funeral service, 12pm., Minister Kirktenia Brown, Officiating.


Interment Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
