Lydia Jones Mickens

12-08-1949 to 06-30-2023

On June 30, 2023, Lydia Jones Mickens made her transition to her heavenly home with the Lord.

Lydia was born December 8, 1949. She grew up in the community of Lonsdale in Knoxville, Tn. Lydia was educated in the Knox County Schools System at Rule High School. She moved from Knoxville to Detroit, MI. and started working for a linen company. Lydia returned to Knoxville in 1984 and worked for a sewing company and finished her career retiring from National Linen in 2018.


After retirement, she worked for the CAC (Knox County Community Action Committee) for six years for the Senior Companion Program where she sat with the elderly. Lydia was a member at First Calvary Baptist Church and was the President of the Usher Board.


She was preceded in death by parents, Ada Mae and Julius Jones; son Franklin Jones, sister, Francine Davis; brothers, Theron (aka Booze) Jones, William (aka) Buck Jones and Michael Jones; grandson, Cameron Mills.


She leaves to cherish her memory; her loving and devoted husband for 53 years Thaddious Mickens; son, Shelton (Arendia Mitchell) Jones ; brother, Julius Jones (Mary Frances); stepdaughter, Varee (Daryl) Grace, grandchildren, Shelton Houston Holt, Jordan Jones, Kishoin Jones, Franklin Jones Jr, Kiara Jones; step-grandchild Valencia Grace, brothers-in-law, Arthur Charles Davis, Knoxville, TN; Solomon and Charles Mickens, Detroit MI; very close cousins Kathy (Gil) Hodges, Edward (Sandra) Kincaid III, Atlanta, Ga., James (Margie) Kincaid, Knoxville, Tn. Sharon (Howard) Kincaid-Clark, Knoxville; devoted friends, Vicki (Zackary) Merchant, Knoxville, Tn, and for over 50 years, Alfreda Howell, Knoxville, Tn. She will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and other devoted friends.


Family will receive friends, 2:00-3:00 p.m., Sunday at First Calvary Baptist Church, funeral service, 3:00 p.m., Rev, Kelvin White, Officiating.

Interment, 11:00 Monday, Sherwood Gardens.
