Marilyn Elizabeth Williams, age 81, transitioned peacefully into eternal life on October 9, 2024, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Marilyn was born May 10, 1943 to Charles Wesley and Fannie Lou Phelps in Dixie, Georgia.
Marilyn was an accomplished high school and college graduate who later went on to receive her Masters from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She was a lifetime member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Marilyn was an educator in the Knox County School system until her retirement. She served faithfully as a dedicated member of Bethel AME Church in many ministries throughout the years until her health began to decline.
Marilyn is preceded in death by parents, Charles Wesley and Fannie Lou Phelps; and husband, Joe Howard Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Alicia (Leonard) Glenn; son Derrick (Letitia) Haley; step-daughter, Greta Williams; sisters, Loretta Phelps, Clara Evans, Dr. Cora (Paul) Dunkley, Fanniella Lewis, Diane (Kunle) Ojikutu, and Geraldine Cabil, grandchildren; Kaniya (Sha’Quan) Williams, Dranoel Glenn, Sherelle (Anthony) Lundy, and Tenai Glenn; great-grandchildren, Ny’Koa, Kenyon, Kennedi, and Nia; Special Family and Friends, Thomasena and Nalitha Drew, Nadriene Jackson, Angela Bourne, Mildred Moore, Carolyn Minter, Julaine Hammond, Bishop Charlotte Hayes-Jeffreys, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many special family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 11:00am to 12:00pm, with funeral services to follow at Bethel AME Church, 2460 Parkview Ave, Knoxville, TN 37914.
