Olivia Sumpter

Olivia “Lady” Sumpter passed away at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center after a year long battle of respiratory complications. She succumbed to her most recent respiratory infections of pneumonia and RSV on March 10, 2025 in the hospital surrounded by family. Lady enjoyed reading, any time spent with family, playing cards, cooking, traveling, listening to music, playing bingo, and hosting parties. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Lady is preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Charles Hayes; siblings, Cathy, Ernestine, Davina, Hubert, and Charles Hayes; nephew, Broderick Hayes, and niece, Toshia Groce. 

She leaves behind he devoted husband of 35 years, Ronald Sumpter; loving daughters, Antoinette and Samantha Towns; sister, Mamie Thomas; brothers, Larry and David Hayes; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends who loved her endlessly. 

Family will receive friends Friday March 21, 2025 from 2:30 to 3pm at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary, 2823 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Knoxville, TN 37914 with funeral services to follow. Rev. Dexter Jordan officiating. Interment at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Final arrangements entrusted to Jarnigan & Son Mortuary
