Sherman James Lofton, born on January 15, 1943, in West Blocton, Alabama, to the late Johnny Mae Cale and Pleas Lofton, peacefully transitioned to eternal life, January 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Mae Cale and Pleas Lofton, his late wife Doris Lofton, his brothers Louis Moore, Melvin Cale, Harold Hill, Wayne and Jarret Knight, and his sister Deborah Lofton. He leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and cherished memories for his surviving family members, including his loving wife Delorse Lofton, his children LaDawn McCoy, Nawana (Maurice) Lawson, Sherman (Rochelle) Lofton II, Sharde Lofton, Kornell Lofton, Jasmine (James) Mathis, Gregory Rose-Lofton, Rhonda (Ronald) Miller, Candacey Johnson, and Layvonnia (Lamont) Brown. Sherman is also survived by his brother Earl (Rhonda) Lofton, his sister Janie Renee Lofton, and a host of adoring grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom he loved dearly and held close to his heart.
A celebration of life will take place at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Family hour will begin at 9:30-10:30 am, funeral services to follow. He will be laid to rest at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
