Obituary for Richard Johnson

RICHARD JOHNSON

Richard Johnson, affectionately known as (Big Daddy) was born September 23, 1948, in Laurens, South Carolina, one of twelve children to the late Eugene Sr. and Willie Mae Leake Johnson. Upon moving to Knoxville, Tennessee in 1967, Richard, was employed for many years with KCDC, until his health began to fail.
Richard was a long-time resident of Walter P. Taylor Homes and Residences at East Port.

Richard loved the Lord and often carried his Bible around with him.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by four brothers: William, Frank, Eugene Jr., and Thomas Johnson: three sisters, Frances Hunter, Rachel Shumpert and Lucy Rhodes.
Richard leaves to cherish his memories, wife Lavern Johnson; one brother WillieJ (Freda) Johnson, three sisters: Sarah J. Edwards, Beatrice Sturgill and Clara J. Byrd; many devoted nieces and nephews to include Rena, and Traunna.

The family would wishes to thank Island Home Nursing Home and Smoky Mountain Hospice for the care Richard was given.

Family hour, 6:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2023 at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary, with a word of prayer by Rev. Mitchelyn Thompson; Graveside services,1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Rev. John B. Jordan officiating.
