Obituary for Shirley Tate Henry
Shirley Tate Henry departed this life on March 21, 2022. She accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age. She was a very devoted and faithful member of Robinson Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, until her health failed her, and she could no longer attend.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Danna Jo (Harvey) Evans, grandsons; Chance Knighton and Derrick “DJ” Evans, parents, Edith Tate and Walter Dean, grandparents, John and Mable Tate, brothers; John “JR” Tate, and William “Billy” Tate, sister, Joyce Cecelia (James) Gathers, uncle, Earl Tate, aunts; Cleo George, Elberta (Bruce) Tate, special cousin, Leon George, devoted cousin, Mildred Kathryn Swann.
She leaves to celebrate her life, a devoted husband of 69 years, James “Toby” Henry, daughters; Mary Ferguson, Phyllis Hardin, Loyce (David) Mayes, and Judy Knighton, foster- daughter, Doris Kellogg Bourne, grandchildren; Donita (Johnny) Simmons, devoted granddaughter, Yolanda (Travis) Wood, Sonya Knox, Kendra Evans, devoted granddaughter, Jennifer Henry, Eric Peacock, LaRon Ferguson, Joy Hardin, Ina Mayes, devoted grandson Iven Mayes, Dynasty Knighton, devoted great-grandson, Josh Henry, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members to include special cousins, Phillip Tate, Jean Tibbs, Special friends, Erma Charles Dean, and Mendy Cox.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 11am Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Robinson Chapel Presbyterian Church, 177 W. Howe Street Alcoa, TN 37701. Rev. Chris Martin Officiating. Interment at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Final arrangements entrusted to Jarnigan and Son Mortuary. www.jarniganandson.com

Shirley was my dearest friend since childhood. She loved to talk about God and family. I will miss our chats . My dearest sympathy for Tobe and the family. God bless and comfort you.
Ms. Shirley was a beautiful sweet woman who always had a smile that made you feel warm inside. Our deepest condolences to her wonderful family whom she loved dearly. May God’s love comfort and keep you in His tender loving care.
