Obituary for Sister Mary Jeter Rodgers
MARY JETER RODGERS
Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 4:00 a.m. God called Sister Mary Jeter Rodgers from earth to her sweet reward. She lived for ninety-nine and a half years, almost five score years old. She is now in the hands of a just God.
Mary Jeter Rodgers was a sweet and gentle soul that loved God and family unconditionally. Mary was born in Carlisle, South Carolina to Tommy and Carrie Jeter. She was the youngest and only daughter of six children. She was married to the late Deacon Ernest Rodgers for 54 years. From this union four children was born to Ernest, Minnie, Paul (Joanne) and Thomas. They also reared their grandson, Wade. There are seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
She was a superb homemaker ensuring that her family was always cared for.
Thank God for Mary Rodgers presents in our lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Rodgers and daughter, Minnie Eaves.
Mary spent the majority of her Christian service as a member of the Patton Street Church of God (Cherry Street Church of God) under the leadership of the late Bishop J.E. Evans and later serving under the late Bishop John L. Batts. Mary and Deacon Ernest Rodgers were a powerful team in the church. She served on the kitchen committee and was considered a great cook and baker of pies and cakes. In 2013, Sister Rodgers joined the congregation of Unity of Praise Church of God, Pastored by Elder Thomas Glenn. She was welcomed with open arms as the Matriarch of the church. Although she had difficulty walking, Thomas and Wade made sure she was present in her wheelchair at church, picnics and gatherings. She was committed to serving God as long as she could.
Family will receive friends, 11:00a.m. – 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Lennon-Seney United Methodist Church, 2084 Dandridge Ave., funeral service, 12:00 noon, Elder Thomas Glenn, Officiating.
